Ruidoso Downs - Unexpected

Ruidoso & Ruidoso Downs - 23 August 2003

At about 11 AM I left Roswell listening to Govinda. I stopped in Roswell Downs and was most entertained by what I found in the men's restroom in the Billy The Kid Byways Center.

I went on to the Hubbard Museum of the American West. It has great quantities of horse-drawn vehicles and horse memorabilia. It also had a temporary outlaw exhibit which was pretty good. I have some pictures of the front of the museum and some of the vehicles, etc., below. I didn't take any pictures of the Outlaw exhibit.

I also spent a fair amount of time in Ruidoso but didn't taken any photos. It has great quantities of gift shops, restaurants and places to stay. I think it actually has more people in the winter but it had quite a few while I was there. Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs are at a higher elevation and it is a lot greener. There is also a river that flows right by Ruidoso. At one shop the woman at the counter said that a lot of people from California moved to this area. Although it snows in Ruidoso it doesn't stay on the ground long but the mountains are nearby for skiing. It's a fairly nice vacation spot.
